DESCRIPTION:This year we (JCNS) are organizing again\, for the first time a
fter begin of Corona\, our yearly Workshop in presence on the lake Starnbe
rg (south of Munich). \nThe thematic is a hot topic at the moment: digital
ization and application of AI in neutron scattering and in other scatterin
g techniques. The title of the Workshop is „Trends and Perspectives in N
eutron Scattering: Experiments and data analysis in the digital age” \nT
he abstract submission and the registration are open https://www.fz-juelic
 h.de/SharedDocs/Termine/JCNS/DE/2022/2022Workshop.html \nJCNS WORKSHOP 202
2\nThe digitalization has influenced the fields of neutron as well as of o
ther scattering techniques in recent years. The application of artificial
intelligence and the increasing automation of the experiments has contribu
ted to a better use of the beam time and data\, it has speeded up the data
reduction\, facilitated and improved the data analysis. Digital twins hav
e also attracted much attention in neutron scattering\, providing insights
that can be used to better prepare experiments and train users and studen
ts. Moreover\, the move from steady source to time-of-flight instrumentati
on as well as the passage from one- to two-dimensional detectors has trigg
ered need for advanced and multi-dimensional data treatment.\nAn additiona
l challenge is to make data and software “FAIR” and sustainable. The w
orkshop is devoted to the area of quantum materials in all their forms.\nT
OPICS WILL INCLUDE\n• Sustainable software development\n• Analysis on
the fly\n• Inverse problems\n• Experiments in the digital age\n• Aut
onomous experiments and robotics\n• AI assisted methods\n• Data manage
ment\n• Data reduction and analysis\nThe workshop wants to be a forum of
software experts and neutron users to discuss the challenges and the oppo
rtunities of the digital transformation in neutron and related scattering
techniques. The workshop will discuss current requirements and development
s in such techniques. In particular the workshop is devoted to novel and u
pcoming experimental opportunities to discuss the scientific options and c
apabilities. The workshop will include invited and contributed oral presen
 tations\nand a poster session.
